After flying our shop Air Conception Nitro 200 for 100 hours, we wanted to share the results of our testing with you all...
The Nitro's concept was a new one for all of us in the paramotor community... A massive increase in power from Air Conception's older 130cc motors... Without adding a pound.
The concern we all had was that this weight savings and power increase would come at the cost of dependability and comfort... And as with all new motors on the market, that it would have a rash of issues in long term use. Over the past few years, several engines have been "rushed" to the market with a ton of problems developing after they were in the end users hands... Problems that the factory couldn't keep up with, often ending with disgruntled customers and giving those motors a bad name that took years to get past.
With all of this in mind, we cautiously approached the Nitro as an engine that we hoped we could fall in love with. That it's peculiarities would be minimal, and that we would end up happy as can be with it... And thankfully for the most part, our first 100 hour engine has delivered.
But, as with all of our reviews, we want to share the good with the bad and annoying... So, rather than focusing on just the joys of a 42lbs paramotor with nearly the thrust of most 70-90lbs units we want to walk you through the teething issues and how they've been handled by the manufacturer.
Though the Nitro was thoroughly tested in Europe, when we received the first five Nitros we opted to only allow them to be sold to dealers or past customers... At least until we saw how the first 50 hours or so go.
Our goal? To avoid the troubles previous importers had experienced with new engines... And so far, so good... That said, we DID discover a few growing pains and we want to share them all with you.
We're fully of the belief that lightweight motors are the future of the paramotor world.
The Nitro weighs in at just 42.6 lbs and offers an impressive amount of thrust (We're testing some additional propellor options next... More on that later).
The Nitro offers a smooth powerband and extremely reasonable fuel economy as well. Weight shift is natural and quite impressive... The Titanium frame + cage is strong and well manufactured.
We had both experienced, and beginner pilots launch and enjoy the Nitro. The most common themes heard were: "DANG this thing is crazy light!" followed shortly after starting by "HOLY CRAP ... So much power!" ... After being flown, the smiles spoke for themselves.
Over all, we're extremely pleased with the Nitro after our first one hundred hours. It offers an incredible power to weight ratio and has made flying even more of a joy than before. Once you see the light, it simply changes every thing.
