My name is Nicolas Vowden, I’m 43 years old and I’m from Orlando, Florida via
Stockholm, Sweden. I’m a firefighter with Orange County Fire Rescue Department in
Orlando and came across powered paragliding through another firefighter at work
one day when talking about aviation. He showed me videos and pictures of himself
and other people flying PPG and I knew this would be something I would get hooked
on. Up to then, I had around 100 skydives but found myself enjoying my time under
canopy more than the actual freefall itself. To me, that was the true feeling of flight.
I started to do some more research on how to learn PPG and came across Aviator
PPG and Eric Farewell. After a brief conversation with Eric over the phone, I
decided to come visit his school and to see first hand if this was where I wanted to
train. I can honestly say that I was blown away by how friendly, professional and
informative Eric was and how great the training facility/shop and equipment was
that the students get to utilize.
I signed up for Eric’s class and haven’t looked back since. Not only is he a
phenomenal pilot himself, but his natural ability to teach coupled with his
knowledge and support through every aspect of training, gives you confidence and
all the tools you need in order to put it all together. He is extremely safety conscious
and instills that same mentality through his teachings with all his students.
Since I started flying with Eric and Aviator PPG, I have met some of the most
wonderful people including his brother James, who also is a fantastic pilot. I’m
proud to call Eric and James my friends. Many of the school’s former students or
pilots from out of town, come and fly during the week or on weekends, and I feel it
makes Aviator PPG feel more like a family rather than just a school. It makes for a
great camaraderie and a lot of good laughs! It’s an awesome feeling when you get
to hang out with people who share the same love for this sport and where everyone
support and learn from each other.
I would recommend Eric and Aviator PPG to anyone who is thinking about learning
this sport and if you decide to make the leap; I hope to see you in the air soon!
